The positioning of the clamps is critical or they slide down the spring and scratch all the paint off. I found I was using additional clamps to hold the spring down while adjusting these, or the screwed rods bent which reduced the contact surface area of the hooks on the coil of the spring. These are probably OK for springs on small cars, but for anything that has stiff suspension I wouldn't trust them.
