The Ermenrich Verk FB20 tester is a small device with simple controls used to check the quality of brake fluid. Moisture can accumulate in a car during operation, which reduces its consumer qualities. If too much moisture accumulates, the brake system may fail. Therefore, it is recommended to check the brake fluid regularly.

The operating principle of the tester is based on measuring the conductivity of the liquid. The tester probe is placed in the brake fluid; by default, it operates in DOT 3 mode, and with a button press it can be switched to DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 mode. The device will take a measurement in a few seconds: The percentage of moisture will appear on the screen, and the display will turn green, yellow, or red. A value in the range of 0–2% and a green screen indicate that everything is fine. For a value of 2–3%, a yellow screen and a buzzer sound indicate a recommendation to change the brake fluid. With a reading of 4%, a red screen and a rapid beeping sound means the brake fluid needs to be replaced immediately.

The device runs on batteries. For reliable measurements, it is necessary to monitor their charge: The device will notify you if a replacement is required.
